How does it work?
Step one:
before you use the app, go to library.tactileimages.org
download an image on the topic that interests you
emboss the image (on swell paper or using manual techniques)
Step two:
hold the phone above the tactile image (on a stand or in one hand)
use your hand to touch the image
the app will identify the position of your index finger
when you reach an active area, your phone will make a "beep"
hold your index finger still for 3 seconds, until you hear 3 beeps
listen to the description of the explored area in real time

TACTILE IMAGES reader is part of the TACTILE IMAGES e-learning platform, which includes a library of over 800 accessible images (drawing + audio details) and an editor where a viewer can create personalized content (maps of the surroundings, objects you want discover, people and other different topics of interest). Additionally, you can purchase customized accessible images and printed catalogs with tactile images.

The project’s platform was awarded at the Social Impact Award Romania 2016 (as THATS.wiki), has been shortlisted at Chivas Venture Romania (2017, 2018), Samsung Changeneers Romania (2018) and sponsored by the Orange Romania Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Romania, HPE Foundation, OMV Petrom, ING Bank Romania, Electrica Romania and Microsoft Romania (2019). The e-learning platform is the result of over 9 years of interaction of the members of the Association for Urban Development (Romanian NGO) with the blind community.
